Discontent Might Be Exactly What You Need Right Now

Rather than suppress discontent—channel it.

Discontent is reason enough for change. Pain is a signal that should be interpreted carefully. Rock bottom is a solid foundation upon which you should seriously consider building anew. In fact, the sense of discontent, alienation, and pain you might feel when you hit (or near) “rock bottom,” might be exactly what you need to set yourself forward on a different, better path.

Content doesn’t lead to change—discontent does that.

Feelings of discontent, pain, and upset provide heated, passionate sources of energy. Energy that might finally compel someone to break from their comfort zone—the zone where living discontentedly can become the norm.

When you’re washing your hands under water, what temperature is going to cause a reaction from your hands? The extreme temperatures, of course. Too hot or too cold and you’ll snap your hands away. “Luke warm” or close to it has the opposite affect—it makes you indifferent to moving your hands one way or the other. They’re comfortable; you’re content; it’s all good.

The problem with living in a “luke warm” state is the same—it makes you indifferent to moving one way or the other. It stifles action—meaningful action—by making you feel comfortable and content. But hey, maybe you’re good with that? Maybe you’re happy where you are, with what you’re doing, and with the people around you. And who am I to impose? Your life; your terms.

But, don’t expect much more.

If you want movement—action that will lead to growth—then you need to change or channel the energy of your situation. If you’re already living in a heated environment that’s causing you high levels of discontent or pain—channel that energy and use it snap your life into a new direction. Add action to that discontent.
